St Moritz can step up in class at Doncaster this evening

6:15 – Doncaster – FERGUSSON COAL DONCASTER MILE STAKES (LISTED RACE) (CLASS 1)

St Moritz has his second run for David Nicholls tonight. Nicholls bought the ex Mark Johnston inmate last October for 105,000 guineas.

He started to pay back his fee by winning a Class 3 Conditions Stakes at Ripon last week.  He ran over 1 mile and 2 furlongs and made all and he was not stopping at the line.  He won the Class 2 Bunbury Cup over 7 furlongs last year showing that 1 mile should be within his scope.

He should enjoy his first try at Doncaster.  He has won twice from 2 starts when going left handed.  In Good to Firm ground he has run 4 times, winning once and finishing placed on the other three occasions.  In fields of 6 to 8 runners he has won once from three starts.  Adrian Nicholls rides again today and he is 1 for 1 on St Moritz.

The imponderables today are that he is still to win over 1 mile, this is his first run in Listed company and his trainer, David Nicholls has only had 1 win race from 13 tries in Listed races at Doncaster.
