Celtic Sixpence has ground to suit at Newcastle

7:25 – Newcastle – SPEEDFLEX SUPPORTING CHILDREN´S HEART UNIT FUND FILLIES´ HANDICAP(CLASS 5) (3yo+ 0-75) Soft 6f

Celtic Sixpence is a 3 year old filly who has run 8 times in her career to date.  The two interesting factors about her profile is firstly the contrast between her decent form in softer ground as opposed to her poor form in firmer going and secondly her liking for this time of the year.

She made her racecourse debut on 2nd August last year at Newcastle finishing 2nd, which she repeated on her next two runs at Yarmouth and Wolverhampton respectively.  She won on her last start as a 2 year old in Good to Soft ground at Goodwood over 6 furlongs.

She made her seasonal reappearance on 17th May at Nottingham when she finished a disappointing 11th out of 13 in Good to Firm ground.  Her next two runs were also in Good to Firm ground and she finished down the field on both occasions.

Her last run was on 4th August at Haydock in Good to Soft ground and the improvement in her form was marked.  She was running back over 6 furlongs and lead inside the last 100 yards and was only headed on the line missing out by a shorthead.

The going at Newcastle this evening is Soft and she has run in Good to Soft and Soft ground 3 times, winning once and finishing second on the other two occasions.  6 furlongs appears to be her ideal trip.  She has run over this distance 7 times and she has won once and been placed four times.  Her win and two of her placed efforts over 6 furlongs have come in Good to Soft and Soft ground.

She runs best in smaller fields.  She runs in a field of 8 runners this evening and on the four occasions she has run in fields of 8 or less she has won once and finished second twice.

Her form from August until the end of the season has so far been very consistent. She has run 5 times from August onwards and she has won once and finished 2nd on the other four starts.
