2:40 – Southwell – MIRROR PUNTERS CLUB FILLIES´ HANDICAP (CLASS 5) (4yo+ 0-70) Standard 5f
Da’Quonde has only run eight times in her career to date and appears to be improving rapidly. The 4 year old brown filly only ran once as a 2 year old and ran just three times last year, winning on her final run of the year at Southwell in December 2011. In contrast to the start of her career she has been kept going over the winter and has already run four times this year.
She ran at Southwell in January over 6 furlongs and finished a disappointing 9th of 12 considering that she has won over the same distance at Southwell on her previous start. Since then she has been dropped back down to 5 furlongs and won three starts back at Wolverhampton in a Class 6 Handicap. She ran at Wolverhampton two starts back finishing 3rd when going down by just ¾ length.
Her latest run was at Redcar last Monday in a Class 5 Fillies Handicap. The race was strongly run and Da’Quonde went to the front 3 furlongs out keeping on well to win by 2 lengths. She was up 7lbs from her last win at Wolverhampton which illustrates that she is still improving.
Da’Quonde has a very good record to date when running over 5 furlongs as she has won twice and been placed once from 4 runs over the trip. She is ridden by stable jockey Tom Eaves who has ridden her on all 8 of her career starts.
She runs on the fibresand again today and in two runs at Southwell she has won once. She has to defy a penalty but looking at the opposition there does not appear to be anything approaching the same form she is in and Bryan Smart has been cleaver by placing her in a fillies race and she can be expected to go very close again today.
