Eijaaz back at his favourite course

6:40 – Catterick – RACING AGAIN ON FRIDAY 25TH MAY CLAIMING STAKES (CLASS 6) (4yo+) Winner £1,704 Good To Soft 1m3f214y

Goeff Harker’s 11 year old bay gelding makes his seasonal reappearance at his favourite track this evening in a grade he has done well in over the last couple of years.  He has been an incredible servant to his connections over the years with this evening’s run being his 84th career start.  He was owned by Hamdan Al Maktoum at the beginning of his career and over the course of his 83 races has won prize money of £39,188 for his connections.

He has run at Catterick on 26 occasions and he has won 7 times and been placed second or third on 9 further occasions.  He runs in a Class 6 Claiming race today and all of his last 7 wins have come in Claiming company.  He has run 10 times in claimers at Catterick of which he has won 5 and been placed four times.  He has run in this race 4 times since 2007 and has finished 2nd, 3rd, 3rd and 2nd respectively.

He has run over 1 mile 4 furlongs 27 times, winning 6 times and being placed 8 times.  Over course and distance his record is 6 wins and 8 placed runs from 19 starts.  Eijaaz is a very willing fellow, but if he has anything against him this evening it will be the going.  He has won in Heavy ground but prefers Good ground or better.  However, as a hold up horse and the hope is that he will be running through beaten horses towards the end of the race.

Eijaaz also has the considerable assistance of Silvestre De Sousa in the saddle who rides Catterick really well.  In the last two seasons he has ridden 25 winners from 109 runners at the course.  He also rides particularly well on Geoff Harker’s horses at the track winning 12 times from 49 rides up to the end of last season.

Eijaaz might not win this evening but he is a thoroughly likeable horse who will give his running.  He loves it round Catterick and in Claiming company with a top jockey onboard who rides the course so well, today could be course win number 8 for Eijaaz.
