3:35 – York – BRITISH STALLION STUDS SUPPORTING BRITISH RACING EBF SPRINT CONDITIONS STAKES (CLASS 2) (3yo) Good 5f
Pearl Secret appears to have frightened off the opposition for the fourth renewal of this Class 2 Conditions Stakes today. The David Barron trained chestnut colt has run twice in his career to date and has won impressively both times and faces only 5 rivals today.
He made his racecourse debut at York last October in a 5 furlong Class 3 Maiden race and clearly knew his job. He ran powerfully throughout the race and only had to be shaken up to go away and win by 1 ½ lengths. He confirmed the good impression he had made when he ran at Doncaster last month on his seasonal reappearance. He ran in a Class 3 Handicap over 5 furlongs and showed that he has come on well over the winter. With three other previous winners in the field of six Pearl Secret was massively impressive. He looked fabulous in the parade ring before the race. He was held up in last place before making good headway by halfway and was leading by the final furlong and simply quickened clear for a facile 4 ½ length win.
He runs over 5 furlongs again today and is bred and built for the job. His sire is Compton Place who has a very good record of producing decent sprinters. He dam was also a sprinter who won at Listed level and Pearl Secret has definitely picked up the family genes
The going at York is Good and Pearl Secret made his debut in Good ground at York before his very taking run in Heavy ground at Doncaster last month. He is ridden by Jamie Spencer again today and Jamie has ridden him on both of his starts to date.
Pearl Secret defends an unbeaten record and is the most exiting runner in the line up today, with an entry in the Group 1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket. He has travelled extremely well in both of his starts and has had plenty left at the end of the race to finish things off. He should take this today and could be a sprinter to follow this season when he inevitably runs in better races.
