Slower all weather surface should suit Hipster

7:35 – Kempton – RACING PLUS ONLINE, MOBILE AND APP NURSERY (CLASS 3) (2yo 0-95) Standard To Slow 6f

Hipster makes his fourth start this evening and he has improved on each of his runs to date.  He was not foaled until the end of March two years ago and consequently did not make his racecourse debut until the beginning of June.  He makes his all weather debut this evening and the Standard to Slow going looks as though it will suit him very well.

Hipster’s three runs have all been run in Soft or Good to Soft ground.  He made his debut at Leicester on 5 June in Good to Soft going and was not unsurprisingly green on his racecourse debut, but did run on inside the final furlong showing ability and that he was open to improvement.  His second run came at Salisbury in ground which was Soft and Heavy in places.  He broke really well out of the stalls and just missed out by a neck to a horse that has gone on the run in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot before winning again in a Nursery at Newbury.  It was another improved run by Hipster.

His last run was at Epsom 34 days ago when he again ran in Soft ground.  He disputed the lead with the 2nd and 3rd placed horses and showed a really good fighting spirit to fight off the 2nd placed horse to win by a neck.  It was a really taking display and he looks open to further improvement.  All three of his runs have come over today’s trip of 6 furlongs.

Although Hipster has not run on the all weather before his sire Kingsalsa has a good record with his 2 year olds and his progeny have a 20% winning strike rate on the all weather.  The fact that the track is riding slow at the moment should be in Hipster’s favour as he has already demonstrated his ability on a slower surface.

He is ridden by Jim Crowley again this evening and Jim has ridden him on all three of his starts to date.  He is having a decent season overall with 84 winners recorded which includes 23 winners from 103 rides at Kempton this year.  He has also ridden 121 winners for trainer Ralph Beckett over the past 5 seasons.

Ralph Beckett appears to have entered Hipster well this evening as he gets into a five runner race off joint bottom weight with three of the field giving him between 4lbs and 9lbs.  He has been raced prominently on all of his starts to date and this tactic is likely to be continued today.  With the track riding Standard to Slow it is a definite advantage to get first run as it can prove difficult to come from behind under these conditions and Hipster can be expected to continue his improvement again this evening.
